Demonstrators in Amsterdam, NY call for justice and unity

A large demonstration was held today in back of the Amsterdam Police Department with participants holding signs expressing support for the Black Lives Matter movement, and calling for justice and reform in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis who died after being restrained by a police officer, the video of which has spurred protests across the country.

While some protests in major cities, including Albany, NY have been followed by violence and looting, the demonstration today proceeded without incident. Some organizers involved with today’s event said they have also been involved in similar peaceful demonstrations held recently in Johnstown and Gloversville. You can read more about the local organizers of the event here.
