Stephen Gomula will appear on this November’s ballot on the Republican line along with Dave Dybas on the Democratic line in the race for the fourth ward alderman position on the Amsterdam Common Council. According to Montgomery County Republican Committee Chair Rosemary Smith, Gomula was nominated unanimously at a party committee meeting last night.
The winner of the fourth ward race will serve the remaining year of former alderman Rodney Wojnar’s term. Wojnar resigned from his position on August 20. According to New York State election law, a county party committee can nominate a candidate for an upcoming election by a majority vote if a vacancy occurs too late in the year for candidates to file petitions. The Democratic committee nominated Dybas as their candidate by a 26-6 vote at a meeting on September 17.
Gomula is a political newcomer and currently works as an emergency medical technician for Malta-Stillwater EMS. He is also a military veteran who served as a medic in the United States Army.
