Rodney Wojnar has resigned his position as fourth ward alderman on the Amsterdam Common Council, according to a letter addressed to Mayor Michael Villa today. The resignation comes after Wojnar was arrested by New York State Police on August 3 and charged with one count of third degree patronizing a prostitute, which is a class A misdemeanor. He was issued an appearance ticket, with a court date in the Town of Glenville on August 28.
The letter was written by Robert Abdella, who states in the letter that he is representing Wojnar. Abdella wrote, “Mr. Wojnar regrets the negative publicity that the recent allegations have brought upon the City of Amsterdam and hopes that his resignation will allow the city to return to conducting the business of the people without distraction. ”
Requests for comment from Wojnar have not yet been returned.
