Irene Collins receives recommendation for third ward alderwoman

During the public comments portion of this evening’s Common Council meeting, Fabrizia Rodriguez, member of the City of Amsterdam Democratic search sub-committee, announced that the party is recommending Irene Collins to replace resigning council member Chad Majewski. Majewski announced his resignation on June 4, which will be effective as of July 1.

In the event of an absence, the council is required to appoint a replacement of the same political party to serve until the next general election. In past instances, the council has voted for the party’s recommendation.

According to the letter of recommendation submitted by Rodriguez, Collins was formerly the deputy controller of the City of Mount Vernon in Westchester County, NY.

In the letter, Fabrizia wrote, “Ms. Collins demonstrates knowledge and experience in government finances, which is a critical skill during our current fiscal situation. We believe she exemplifies our committee’s Democratic values and would be  a great asset to the City of Amsterdam in her role as councilwoman.”
