The Amsterdam High School Lady Rams lacrosse team celebrated a 5-3 win over Schenectady on Saturday afternoon at Lynch field. Senior members of the team including Alyssa Kuchis, Kelsey Bogdan, Abigail Saines, Davia Iorio, Christiana Colon, Paige Bertuch, and Lucia Liverio were also recognized before the game.
The win was only the second of the season, bringing the team’s record up to 2-14. Being only the second year playing at the varsity level, Coach Jessica Byerwalters said the team is still developing, but is starting to come along.
“Paige Bertuch, she showed up today and did a great job in the goal, she had seven saves, only allowed three goals in, so that’s a great job. Our defense came out really strong today and held it together,” she said.
Player scoring goals included Kayli Hoefs with three goals, and Lucia Liverio and Elena Fedullo with one goal each.
“I’m just glad that the girls showed up and they played very well together. And it’s a successful day when you get to walk away with the win,” Byerwalters.
The team next faces Scotia-Glenville at Scotia-Glenville Highschool, Tuesday, May 15 at 4:30pm.
