Pritchard reaches 1,000 career points in Lady Rams win

Amsterdam senior forward Giuliana Pritchard became only the second player in Lady Rams basketball history to score  over 1,000 career points during Amsterdam’s 56-47 victory over the South Glens Falls Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night at South Glens Falls High School.

Pritchard took an inbound pass from senior point guard Lucia Liverio in for a lay up giving her 1,001 points for her career record. Entering Thursday’s game, Pritchard needed only 13 points to get to 1,000, and finished with 14 against South Glens Falls. She also recorded a “double- double” gathering 10 rebounds in the effort, and added five steals.

Freshman Jackie Stanavich led Amsterdam with 17 points and seven rebounds in the winning effort. Freshman Antonia May added 11 points including a trio of three point baskets. Elena Fedullo totaled six points, Taylor Flint chipped in with five points, and Charli Beekman added three points for Amsterdam (11-2, 10- 2 Foothills Council).

Mackenzie Collier led the Lady Bulldogs with a game high 23 points.

The victory allowed Amsterdam to keep pace with Scotia-Glenville in the race for the top spot in the Foothills Council. The Lady Rams conclude a three game road trip with a game against Glens Falls on Monday, January 29. Amsterdam returns home on February 1 with a 7pm start against Hudson Falls at the AHS gym. Hudson Falls was on the short end of a 50-49 contest with the Broadalbin- Perth Lady Patriots on Thursday night.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Section 2 Record Book maintains lists of student athletes who score 1,000 or more career points, as well as 400 or more points in a single season, 40 or more points in a single game, 100 or better three point field goals in a career, seven or more three point field goals in a single game, and 40 or more three point field goals in a single season.

Over the past two weeks, Pritchard has written her name in the record book twice. Her 40 point effort against Johnstown back on January 18 was only one shy of the school mark set by Amy Jo Stewart, but good enough to be listed in the NYSPHSAA book, and her 14 point night against South Glens Falls puts her alongside Nina Fedullo as the only other Amsterdam girls basketball player with 1,000 career points.
