Council approves DeRossi for AIDA board, votes no on Barone for golf commission

Gina DeRossi, a former City of Amsterdam councilwoman and Greater Amsterdam School District board member, was approved unanimously by the council at Tuesday’s meeting to take a spot on the Amsterdam Industrial Development Agency board. DeRossi will replace resigning board member Michael McKenney. She currently holds the position of Vice President of Engagement at Soteryx Corp, an information technology consultant company with an office in Saratoga Springs.

DeRossi attended the meeting in order to respond to any questions from council members. Alderman Jim Martuscello, asked about her familiarity with the agency. DeRossi said that during her time on the council, she served as liaison to the AIDA board.

Council members voted 3-2 against a resolution approving Ron Barone to serve on the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course Commission. Board chairman Matt Ossenfort recently stepped down from the commission. Aldermen Jim Martuscello and Paul Ochal cast the two yes votes.

After the meeting, Alderman Rodney Wojnar, liaison to the golf course, said he voted no because the appointment “wouldn’t have moved the course forward.”

Wojnar said he was surprised to see his name as the sponsor of the resolution given he had previously expressed opposition to the appointment.

Mayor Michael Villa indicated after the meeting that he would likely look to appoint someone else.
