Montgomery County’s plan to consolidate municipal services will be the subject of three upcoming public hearings. In July, County Executive Matt Ossenfort introduced a 12 point plan that includes the dissolution of the Village of Canajoharie, as well as the creation of a shared office and courtroom complex for several area towns and villages at the former Beechnut factory in Canajoharie. The plan satisfies New York State’s County-Wide Shared Services Initiative requirements, and serves as the basis for an application for a $20 million state grant to help fund the implementation of the plan.
The first hearing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m., in Amsterdam at the Social Services Satellite Conference Room located in the Riverfront Center. The second will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 p.m., in Fonda in the Legislative Chambers of the County Office Building. The third will be held in Canajoharie, Monday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m., in the Village Hall. The public hearings are required by the state in order to obtain and facilitate input from the public.
