Council passes enhanced user fee abatement ordinance

More City of Amsterdam property owners who make significant investments in rehabilitation can now take advantage of an ordinance that waives water, sewer, and sanitation fees for up to two years. The Common Council passed a revised version of the ordinance at Tuesday’s meeting that extends the benefit to single family and commercial property owners. Previously, the ordinace specified that only mult-unit residential properties qualified for the abatement.

The ordinance was also revised to specify the minumum investment amount an owner will need to show in order to qualify for the abatement. Residential owners need to invest at least $7,500 per housing unit and commercial owners must invest at least $10,000.

The ordinance was first proposed by Alderman Jim Martuscello in March.
