The Amsterdam Little Giants football league marked the beginning of its fall season on Saturday with a ceremony at the league’s home field behind Barkley Elementary School in Amsterdam. Each team player was recognized and took a half lap run around the field. Medals were also presented to the previous season’s flag football senior champions, the Cardinals. The ceremony was attended by New York State Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara who gave high-fives to all the kids as they ran their lap.
After the ceremony, the junior flag football championship game was held, at which the Giants came away with a win against the Packers with a final score of 12-0. Rocco Natale made a pass to Petro Russo and a handoff to John Miller for the two touchdowns of the game.
In tackle football action later in the day, the Jets beat the Steelers 20-0. Devon Wilson ran for two touchdowns, and Jordan Olmack ran for one. The Gold Hornets prevailed against the White Warriors 7-0. Jose Cruz scored the only touchdown of that game.
