The Amsterdam council of the Knights of Columbus held their annual free throw shooting contest Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Bacon Recreation Center. Thirty four children, ages 9-14 competed in the early morning contest with the winners in nine age groups, boys and girls earning the opportunity to advance to a district competition. Winners were Kayla Douglas (9 year old girls), Destiny Villa Valles (10 yr old girls), Jackie Stanavich (12 yr. old girls), Austin Van Gorder (9 yr. old boys), Landon Russom (10 yr. old boys), Jovel Valentine (11 yr. old boys), Jesus Rivera (12 yr. old boys), Nicholas Antonelli (13 yr. old boys), and Corey Motyl (14 yr. old boys). Winners are pictured with Amsterdam Knights of Columbus grand knight Jeff Stark and City of Amsterdam Mayor Mike Villa. Food for the event was donated by St. Mary’s Hospital. The district competition will be held in early February pending the completion of the Gloversville K of C free throw contest later this month.
