Walter Elwood Museum thanks ice cream social supporters

The Walter Elwood Museum recently hosted its 31st Annual Ice Cream Social, on Wednesday, August 19th. On a beautiful summer evening, over 400 people attended this wonderful community event. The museum raised much-needed operational funds and monies which will help the museum provide educational programs, special exhibits and learning opportunities for community members of all ages.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you to the many businesses and individuals who provided financial support and donations. Special thanks to Amsterdam Rotary Club, St. Mary’s Health Care, MCT Credit Union, Dr. Govind Rao, US Congressman Paul Tonko, Miller Printing, Putman Insurance Agency, and Spagnola & Spagnola Accounting for being event sponsors. Our gratitude also goes to Hannaford, WCSS, Kyle’s Bounce, and Stewarts Shops for their donations and support of our annual event.

Many thanks to the volunteers who baked all the delicious desserts served at the event. Thank you to Gary Van Slyke, Kurt Siegel, Kevin Wayne and Pete Betz for the wonderful musical entertainment throughout the event. A special thank you to US Congressman Paul Tonko, City Court Judge Lisa Lorman, and Bill Mycek for coming out to attend and support the Museum.

We are thankful to the numerous vendors who came to support the museum. Thank you to Dave’s Dawgs, NYS Children’s Foundation, Suzanna Hunter and Barb Neznek and their group of 4H kids, and Matt George of the Capital District Civil War Roundtable. In addition, we thank the local media for their invaluable support and coverage of the event.

We are indebted to the many individuals, including Museum board members and staff, the Work Force Solutions Summer Youth Employment Crew who helped with set up and who volunteered to work the event. The list of names of everyone who contributed to our success is far too long to mention.

A huge thank you is extended to everyone who came out on a warm summer evening to enjoy a special event of food, fun and friends. The board and staff of the Walter Elwood Museum strive to provide high-quality educational programming and events which highlight our rich history to the Mohawk Valley Region. Please stop in and tour the Museum soon. We are confident visitors will enjoy the experience and see first-hand the historic gem we have right in our neighborhood.
