Dan Nelli, owner of Dan’s Backyard Barbecue, recently moved his business into Amsterdam’s Riverlink Park facility and officially opened the restaurant to customers on Thursday. On the menu are a variety of barbecue chicken, ribs, steak, and seafood dishes, all of which can be enjoyed against the scenic backdrop of the Mohawk River from the facility’s covered or open deck.
On Thursday, Nelli said that moving into the Riverlink facility is the culmination of five years of growth for the business which started out as an on-site catering company for fundraisers and events. He described the demand for his services in 2014 as “flat out” and was glad to have the opportunity to move into the park.
Nelli said he plans on the utilizing the adjacent party tent to hold special events and fundraisers to add to the park’s existing lineup of free outdoor concerts which begins in July.
“We have a great venue down here,” said Nelli, “We want to plan some more bands, comic nights, sip and paints, and utilize the big party tent that’s back there.”
The restaurant will be staffed by anywhere between 6 to 12 people depending on the night. Nelli said his team’s goal is “making sure when people come down here they have a great experience and a great night and they leave here and tell 10 other people.”
The restaurant will be open from 11am-10pm, Thursday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. Catering services and delivery are also offered.
