Amsterdam X-Plosion wins Run for the Races basketball tournament

The Amsterdam X-Plosion girls 15-under Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball team won the Run for the Races tournament held on May 9-10 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Amsterdam went undefeated with a 4-0 record and victories over Barre Swish (Vermont) 52-9, Spa City Shooters 35-21, and Scotia-Glenville 41-18 in pool play, then defeated the Adirondack Shock 53-36 in the final.

The roster of the Amsterdam X-Plosion consists of players from the Amsterdam High School varsity and junior varsity teams including Autumn Duemler, Jailene Irizarry, Rayven Roach, Maria Lomanto, Grace Catena, Brady Santiago, Giuliana Pritchard, Lucia Liverio, Gianna Derosa, Taylor Flint, and Karly Power. The team is coached by AHS varsity coach Eric Duemler. The Amsterdam X-Plosion also recently won the Madness on the Mohawk’AAU tournament held in Amsterdam and Johnstown in April.

Fedullo on winning national team

Amsterdam High School sophomore Nina Fedullo is a member of the Saratoga Sparks national AAU team that went undefeated and won its division at the Run for the Races tournament. This season for the Amsterdam Lady Rams varsity basketball team, Fedullo scored over 300 points and is on pace to potentially break the career scoring mark for an AHS girl set by Amy Jo Stewart with 954 points in 1985.
