Kaczmarek and Filiberto named to tennis All Star Team

Amsterdam High School seniors Kristie Kaczmarek and Tessa Filiberto were named to the 2014 Foothills Council girls tennis team All Stars on Wednesday. The list included girls from the eight Foothills Council schools.

Both Kaczmarek and Filiberto were part of an Amsterdam team that went undefeated in the Foothills Council and won the schools’ first title in that league. The Amsterdam girls tennis team went on to defeat Albany Academy for Girls in the quarter finals of the Section 2 Class A team tournament and advanced to the semi finals before falling 6-1 to eventual Class A champion Burnt Hills -Ballston Lake High School. The Lady Rams finished 15-1 overall.

Kaczmarek was the Lady Rams number one singles player all season and achieved a 12-2 record in the Foothills Council and 13-3 overall. She was part of an AHS team that went 67-3 in singles matches in their first season playing in the Foothills Council. Kaczmarek competed at singles for AHS in the individual tournament reaching the second round.

Filiberto played both singles and doubles for the Lady Rams. She excelled at number one doubles with teammate Gabby DiSalvi and achieved a 14-0 record in the Foothills Council, and 16-0 overall. AHS doubles teams were unbeaten at 28-0 in the Foothills Council. Amsterdam’s Molly Monge and Prahba Singh were 15-1 overall at number two doubles. Filiberto and DiSalvi earned the Lady Rams one win against the Lady Spartans in the semi finals.

Seniors Ella Dybas and Audrey Flint of Amsterdam also made the list of honorable mention choices. .

Dybas played the entire season as the Lady Rams number two singles player. She was 14-0 in the Foothills Council and 15-1 overall. She joined Caitlin Gannon (14-0), and Arizona Santiago (12-0) as undefeated AHS singles players in the Foothills Council..

Flint competed as AHS’ number three singles player and was 13-1 in the Foothills Council and 14-2 overall. She also teamed up with Gannon during the Foothills Council tournament and reached the finals. Dybas and Kaczmaek were also a doubles team in that tournament, and reached the semi finals.

Amsterdam Lady Rams players reached as far as the third round of the Section 2 individual player tournament held at Sportime Central Park in Schenectady earlier this month.

Also selected to the Foothills Council All Star team were Scotia-Glenville’s Samantha Montague and Caitlin Estes, Queensbury’s Rebecca Sung, Johnstown’s Angelee Smith, South Glens Falls’ Katie Holodook, Hudson Falls’ Brianne McKinney, and Greenwich’s Amanda Thomas.

The list of honorable mention players included Elizabeth Esker and Abby August of Scotia-Glenville, Lauren Molino of Glens Falls, and Kaili Jackson of Greenwich.
