Sacandaga Summer Volleyball in full swing

The Sacandaga Summer Volleyball League continued its 2017 season this past week with a series of division crossover games at Fulton Montgomery Community College. Student athletes from ten area high school teams played at least two games each to wrap up the division rounds which began two weeks ago.

At the start of Wednesday’s crossover games Broadalbin- Perth led Pool B followed by Meekel Christian School, Mayfield, Gloversville, and Amsterdam. Atop Poll A was Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons followed by Fonda- Fultonville, Middleburgh, Galway, and Johnstown.

Broadalbin-Perth split a pair of games with Johnstown before matching up with Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. B-P took both games from the Pool A leaders, 25-15, and 25-18. The Broadalbin- Perth team was led by the serving and hitting of Tesa Brody, Madison Fariello, and Eliana Fraser. B-P maintained its first place lead by one game over Mayfield heading into next Wednesday’s opening round bracket playoffs.

Amsterdam also saw action against Johnstown and Notre Dame- Bishop Gibbons. The Amsterdam team consisted of players from this past high school year’s AHS junior varsity and varsity teams including Krystal Dicaprio, Alyssa Kuchis, Mady Carmona, and Lily Orengo, who missed the high school girls basketball and girls lacrosse seasons due to injury but was back in action on the volleyball court in preparation for the 2018 school sports season.

The Sacandaga Summer Volleyball League continues the 2017 season with tie breakers and bracket match ups on Wednesday, July 19 at FMCC. Single game tie breakers if needed begin at 4:45pm. Bracket matches are scheduled to begin at 5:30pm. The semi- finals and finals are scheduled for Wednesday, July 26. Broadalbin- Perth is the defending champion.

B-P Volleyball planning trip to Disney

The Broadalbin- Perth Volleyball team has been holding fund raisers this summer in preparation for a trip to a tournament at Disney World. The BPHS girls have had a face painting booth at the Spring Fling in Amsterdam and during the July 4th Canal Celebration at Riverlink Park and are trying to raise the funds necessary to get to a volleyball tournament at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World, Florida. The event sponsored by KSA Events is scheduled for August 29- September 2, 2018. The team is looking at possibly one more fund raiser this summer before the school season begins, and will need to raise more funds before the 2018 tournament.
