Area residents hold “CasiNO” demonstration

Dozens of people gathered Tuesday afternoon on the intersection of Route 30 and Route 5 in downtown Amsterdam with signs protesting against a proposed casino development in neighboring Town of Florida. The event was planned and promoted online via the People Against Town of Florida Casino page and was originally intended to coincide with a planned pro-casino rally at Shuttleworth Park which was canceled Tuesday morning, due to concerns about the heat. Concerns about the impact the casino development would have on city businesses as well as the rural character of the town were among the issues cited by the protesters.

  1. Bill says:

Can we assume that none of the anti-casino protesters will be applying for any of the jobs posted should the Amsterdam bid be a winner?

  2. Deborah bramer says:

Its not going to be JUST in the Town of Florida. The property is in both the Town of Florida and Amsterdam. The proposed site is on both lines.
